The Chinese do not have a good record when mining outside of their country.
But NGO's that have whipped up this whole thing in Madang should be thrown out of all countries as they're about causing trouble and are against all mining projects.
The only chance PNG has of getting ahead is if they develop all their mining and energy assets.
HIG would be a nervous partner with the Chinese and would want out of this project when it's up and going next year and the Chinese would want them out so they can keep the operation secret - I'd almost bet my bottom dollar on a buyout of HIG from Ramu next year at the latest.
It's petty cash to HIG compared to Frieda and they could use the proceeds to pay some of $300mil they have to raise in debt/equity for the construction of Frieda.
