Takeda's TAK-003 dengue vaccine represents an alternative approach, evaluated over a 4.5-year phase III trial in eight dengue-endemic nations in Asia and Latin America. The vaccine demonstrated an overall efficacy of 61.2% against virologically confirmed dengue (VCD) and 84.1% against hospitalized VCD.10 Its protection was particularly robust for DENV-1 and DENV-2 in seropositive individuals, but efficacy in seronegative populations was limited to DENV-1 and DENV-2, with no significant protection observed for DENV-3 or DENV-4 due to an insufficient number of cases for evaluation. TAK-003's two-dose regimen provides sustained protection, but logistical challenges remain for its implementation in resource-limited settings.

Takeda was hoping to launch TAK-003 in more than 20 by 2025, they are currently available in 35 countries.

They have kicked off a collaboration with Hyderabad-based firm Biological E. Limited, which is expected to produce about 50 million QDENGA doses annually and making it available in India in 2026.

By the end the decade they are expecting to produce 100 million doses annually and peak sales $1.6- $2 billion.
