You mean, sort of like Phoenix Arizona, where 4 million people live happily in the middle of a very hot desert.
That might just work, and pretty soon the Government would build the roads and other infrastructure that would open up the inland. After all we now know that a cry from an asylum seeker will get a much more symapthetic hearing from Government than our own long-suffering citizens.
