Generate power from the sun, aiming to generate at least as much as we use.
Minimise using petrol and electricity - car travel vs public transport, replaced the motor mower with a non-motorised push mower, use hand clippers and pruners instead of electric ones.
Heat water with the sun, not electricity.
Grow 'green curtains' over sun-exposed windows and walls to keep the house cooler in summer.
Use insulation and curtains and blinds to help keep the house warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Try to inject rational discussion and inform others about the dangers of global warming.
Vote for representatives who are most likely to act to curb greenhouse gas emissions (not easy to find them yet).
It's interesting to see how many people look at solar pv panels and solar hot water services on their neighbours houses, and start to think about putting them up. Irrespective of a person's understanding of climate change, most people know that power prices are heading one way - up, and generating your own electricity saves money as well as helping to stave off climate change.
