This referendum is being covered by other nations, the New York Times and BBC are all over it.
Forget about the politics of this for sec and listen to what an ex Ambassador said this morning about it. His view is that if the voice goes down the gurgler, and we reject recognising our first nations people and giving them a voice in the constitution, we will be seen very poorly in the eyes of the west. To the extent that it will tarnish our reputation as a fair, free and decent country, causing impacts on people wanting to visit, invest, and taking away our ability to question other nations such as China and their policies on their treatment of minorities.
He also mentioned our standing in the South Pacific with Islanders, as they do have a connection to first aussies. China will see a No vote as another opportunity to win over the South Pacific.
Thats the opinion of an ex Ambassador.
