Imagine IM partners with Swinburne University in Graphene Certification Centre
Swinburne partners with leading graphene company Imagine Intelligent Materials
Swinburne’s Factory of the Future and Imagine Intelligent Materials Pty Ltd are collaborating to support the development of new graphene-based products and processes.
Graphene is a two-dimensional, atomic scale carbon material with extraordinary properties. Stronger than steel, harder than diamond, and the most electrically conductive material yet discovered, graphene is widely predicted to transform advanced manufacturing, generating revolutionary new products across all industry sectors.
Under the terms of an agreement signed today, Swinburne and Imagine IM will collaborate to establish a graphene certification centre that will underpin replicability and quality assurance within manufacturing supply chains that use graphene. The collaboration aims to connect Australian industry into the global advanced manufacturing supply chain for graphene and related products, and will provide the foundation for further research into graphene and the development of new products.
Imagine IM is the leading Australian graphene manufacturer and developer of graphene-based technologies for industrial applications. It was founded in 2014 to create disruptive products and solutions using graphene.
“Professor Bronwyn Fox, who leads the Factory of the Future, is an expert in Carbon Fibre with a track-record in directing research designed to bring new technologies to market in the advanced materials space,” says Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Aleksandar Subic.
“Our work with Imagine IM will provide the opportunity for Swinburne to be a leading global centre for the development of graphene products.”
Imagine CEO Chris Gilbey says the certification centre at Swinburne will be the first of its kind in the world.
“Establishing a process for certification of graphene based materials is, in my view, one of the most important steps that needs to be taken in order for the industrial commercialisation of graphene to take place,” Mr Gilbey says.
“Australia and Victoria will be leading the world in developing certification as a central tenet of the commercialisation of graphene.”
