    Conductive Smart Materials from Graphene

    • We use graphene to create smart materials.
    • These materials sense and report real-time changes in stress, temperature and moisture.
    • Our functionalised graphene transforms ordinary materials into electrically conductive, “intelligent” materials.
    • Our pilot graphene plant is able to produce up to 10 tonnes of graphene per annum.
    • We tailor graphene for individual products, processes and supply chains.
    • Graphene is a complicated material to use.
    • We develop “drop-in” solutions for large-scale manufacturing processes.
    • Our graphene composites and coatings create high value-added products for high-volume manufacturing.

We use graphene to create smart materials that can sense and report real-time changes in stress, temperature and moisture. The company was founded in 2014 by a group of engineers, scientists and business visionaries fascinated by the potential of commercialising graphene at industrial scale.

We developed an approach that we believe is essential for success: Understand and work within the cultures and structures of industrial supply chains, and provide a QA process that mitigates reduce the risk of adopting a new technology. By disciplining ourselves in this way, we hope to serve our customers efficiently and effectively and build a global business.

We undertake research activities with universities in Australia and beyond. These include University of South Australia, RMIT, CSIRO, the University of Wollongong and the University of Oklahoma.

Our graphene pilot plant in Geelong, Victoria was opened in August 2016 and has a capacity of up to 10 metric tonnes of graphene per year. The plant was the recipient of the Innovation, Research and Development Award from Engineers Australia for 2016.

We established The Imagine IM Graphene Certification Centre at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Victoria in October 2016.

"Chris Gilbey and Phil Aitchison from Imagine Intelligent Materials took a stand at the leading geosynthetics industry event in the USA this week. The world’s top engineering, manufacturing and installation companies in geosynthetics were at GeoAmericas 2016, held in Miami this year.
Gilbey said, “I was amazed at the level of interest in our imgne X-3 coatings solutions. A lot of the people attending had heard about our licensing agreement with Geofabrics Australia and, as a result of that, came by our stand to find out more.“I think that we have a really good shot at closing licensing agreements with several of the companies we met with”

What was also interesting was that we appear to have a product solution that is considered by many as a major breakthrough. It just goes to show that Australian science and engineering continues to be at the bleeding edge of innovation.

We think that there is every likelihood that we will need to build a plant in the US and quite probably Europe within the next 12 months to satisfy the demand for functionalised graphene to make our masterbatch products in proximity to our licensees’ manufacturing operations."

This article was written in April this year and ImagineIM has been kicking goals left right and centre since then.. This includes the plant being built and receiving an Australian innovation award and new MOU's being signed in other verticals. With the coking coal prices going through the roof over the past few months, the initial hype over imagine has faded but i still think it is one of the best Australian innovation stories out there at the moment. I for one cannot wait to see how this story unveils and am extremely bullish on imagine being part of the upcoming graphene revolution.

It was stated that the logical path for the initial investment into imagine was an eventual 100% takeover which is being backed up by Warwick Grigor (Chairman/Director at Imagine) building a 10% stake in PAK and fully underwriting the upcoming rights issue. There is a plethora of information available about Imagine online and i really think that the market is still sleeping on the future potential that this company has. The website has also been recently updated for anyone that wishes to learn more about the company.
