Unfortunately SAW sensors rely on RF waves which have very short range / power ratio due to the radius of the sphere (the range) being the cube root of the overall transmission.
This is what is stopping wireless internet being sole-source without cable connections, the amount of bounce points would be enormous which would reduce speed, despite the overall linkage speeds from one node to another being far faster than most cable technologies.
PSY's sensor uses optics which is wave-guided which means the sensor can have a far longer range, imagine satelite DSL linkages. The downside to optics had always been stability, cost and size. If PSY has overcome these, the applications in real world could be huge.
