I view immigration, unemployment(newstart) & disability support pension(DSP) , as all being linked.
It is way too easy to get a DSP. Say 20 billion a year , 3 times Newstart, is spent on DSP. Only 1/2 of DSP people are qualified to get NDIS benefits. This means that 1/2 of 900,000 to million people on DSP are there for mental health or communication problems. As a nation of immigrants, by definition, lots will have ongoing communication issues as English is not there first language. Also there are communications issues with say arabic or chinese as these languages set bar too high for even their own people who are native speakers. Al refugees by definition have mental health issues. Who wouldn't with what they have been through.
So I hope the picture is clear, immigration is used by politicians to make their statistics look good. To do this politicians need to get unemployment figures low. To achieve this politicians keep the rules easy for immigrants to get DSP.
This leads to a desperate cycle of increasing poverty in Australian society. The opposite of moving up the food chain to advanced manufacturing.
