In 1991 The UN passed a resolution declaring that Taiwan
is part of China and Australia voted for that.

    Taiwan was a dictatorship from 1949 until 1996 .

With the rise of China economically, trade & manufacturing
the US has seen this as a threat to US hegemony .

In 2014 China passed out the USA in GDP(PPP)and combined
with Xis BRI & Made in China 2025 economic programs , this
sent alarm bells going in the hallways of Capital Hill .

Then Trump doubled down on the anti-China rhetoric.

The US China hawks have always seen Taiwan (ROC) as a stepping stone
into China if its economy, like that of the former USSR imploded.

Post 2014 it became patently clear to the USA that the Chinese economy
would not likely implode and that the US only option was to economically amd militarily
    "contain" China....ie defacto economic war.

So where does that leave Aus ?
IMO if we want to grow out economy beyond the inflation rate over the next generation, its "populate or perish"

IMO our population ought to match that of Canada within a generation
and those who think that immigrants will take their jobs should simply
pull out a finger, educate, train up and keep ahead.

Most immigrants have to learn English and socially adjust while the
begrudging working class here only have to train and acquire higher skill sets.

When we barrack for our favourite Rugby League team, we dont crib about the
    "imports" ....eh?
