The paper was reported on by several mainstream media outlets.

An analysis for the journal BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine “identified several biases and knowledge gaps which may give the false impression that smoking is protective in Covid-19”.

OK I wasn't trying to glamorize or sanctify smoking as the holy grail and I have no financial affiliation to the tobacco industry LOL... but my point on having a weaker immune system response to reduce respiratory symptoms.
