The governments of Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia did the same, again proving that pandemics can be contained and eliminated with public health measures. Although the Australian government is in the process of giving that up unfortunately.
In the US Trump (and now Biden) just decided to let hundreds of thousands of people die unnecessarily. Same in Europe.
