Although Sirtex uses a longer acting radioactive substance (Yttrium) - the main advantage of OSL is in delivery more than the radiation effects.. although short vs long lasting brachytherapy is not yet explored.
For what it is worth - the OSL patent allows injection of Yttrium in combination.
The problem with Sirtex spheres is they kill more tissue as they are delivered by blood supply rather than by injection - so theoretically patients have more healthy liver tissue affected although the liver has plenty of redundancy.
