Am I correct in my assumption that when sensors are applied a vacuum is formed & remains so until a crack occurs in flight while under stress which may close when the aircraft is no longer under stress & the sensor will provide that information when testing occurs.

If that is the case SMN would have a great advantage over any other system that would rely on a crack being present during testing.

At one point in time, I think it was mentioned that sensor information may be able to be transferred directly to the cockpit during flight rather than waiting for testing on the ground. I think that technology would be brilliant but could be many years down the track.
