interesting to note that the real issue during the 1930's malaise was that due to a very prolonged drought over a number of years in the thirties it caused a huge displacement of agricultural workers pushed into the city looking for work - this was essentially the straw that broke America's back during that time on top of the struggling economy hence the large unemployment numbers.
America at that time relied heavily on Ag employment. Then came WW2 and an intense period of industrialisation to soak up those Ag workers and that was the last shift that turned the US primarily towards industrial employment.
Interesting to see the symmetry of events that occur one after the other between now and then.
