What do you think the existing state royalties are for?? (access to the resources) and don't think that these threats are hollow because Twiggy has too act in the best interests of the shareholders he's legally bound to that duty until he steps down from that role.
So if you were Marius, Sam or twiggy and you had $10B to invest and you had two identical resources with exactly the same costs of production etc.. and the only difference was one is in Aust and will be taxed at 40% then 30% corp rate and the other is in lets say Canada who are lowering they taxes to encourage investment and you'll only be paying a small royalty and then 30% corp rate.
Which one of these project will:
- have the highest ROE
- greatest benefit to the shareholders
the answer is obvious and that why Twiggy, Sam & Marius will be forced to move operations offshore, they have no choice
