Just a thought. We all realize the financial and humanitarian factors that we consider make the PASE extension a no brainer, but, are we ignoring another factor, the politics??
I am sure that I have read that no decision can be made by the Aceh "government" without the full consent of the Indonesian Central Government.
Now, how are the "politics" and "diplomacy" playing out with Indonesia at the moment?
We have the U.S. planning to put military bases in Australia and have a "greater presence" in the region.
We, most certainly, have the Aus Govt putting much pressure on Indonesia re the asylum seekers coming from Indonesia to Australia.
There "could" be much pressure on any deals that are being negotiated with Aus and US companies. Is that why Exxon is selling out?
These are just thoughts in view of the very odd fact that it is taking pretty well to the last minute to come up with a decision that has been in the pipeline for well over 18 months.
