Importance of Cobalt for EV industry, page-2

What does above report have to to with the importance of Cobalt?

It mainly addresses Rare Earth magnets.
While Cobalt was initially used in the first Rare Earth magnets, today Neodymium magnets are used with no Cobalt included at all.
A lot is also false in above report.
A fridge compressor uses an induction motor and has no (rare earth)magnets at all.
Actual increase in efficiency of motors with rare earth magnets is marginal compared to a well designed induction motor and would certainly not be the reason for fridges that used 2200kWh p.a. in 1975 and now use 500kWh even if they were using rare earth magnet motors.
Tesla EV's also use induction motors, only recently some versions of the model 3 have magnets.
The main benefit of these motors is small size and weight to power ratio, which is a beneficial factor for all mobile units like an EV, power drill or vacuum cleaner but not a fridge.

There is a trend to actually move away from rare earth motors in EVs due to environmental reasons, cost and dependancy from China but again this all has nothing to do with the importance of Cobalt.

I could even start a thread how the LiFePO4 battery technology is taking Cobalt out of the equation in newer EVs but I won't.
Then there is the LMO type battery(Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, BWM i3), no Cobalt either.
Anybody interested may search this themselves.
Cobalt will still play a role for a few more years but when AUZ, if ever, finds a new BoD and gets on with the job, the demand for Cobalt will likely have fallen with better battery tech replacing it.
