I also worried this might be fake, so I checked my original letter and statement of holdings that I received after the transfer to America (August 2012) and confirmed that it is from the same company: American Stock Transfer and Trust Company, LLC (including the same website: www.amstock.com). I then followed the three simple steps on the Notice of Unclaimed Property which meant going to the particular internet address listed which was based at www.amstock.com and entering the required company number and shareholder account number, which I found were detailed on my original statement (the "Direct Registration Book-Entry Advice") that I'd received in August 2012. I also had to enter a once-off verification code that I found near the top of the Notice of Unclaimed Property. The website then confirmed that my "Date of last contact" had been updated.
