"Put your own oxygen mask on first, before assisting your child" is the sensible rule in aviation, and it applies here as well.

We have an economy struggling to provide enough tax revenue to support a welfare state which is like a lifeboat with too many people in it, and more in the water.

we have a political system that has minor parties blocking sensible measures like cashless debit cards preventing recipients from wasting all their tax-derived entitlements on booze, tobacco, drugs and gambling.

We have an over educated army of entitled people seeking a job like their parents had, with pay rises above inflation, driven by productivity gains, but with no marketable skills of value to our trading partners.

The only way to fix this is at ballot box.

Think long and hard about the track record of those individuals and parties asking for your vote.

    Would you employ them?

If the answer is no vote for someone you would or someone you have confidence knows how to create income which leads to wealth that can be reinvested productively.

Rome had access to slaves, but was picked off by barbarians who didn't like the indolence and moral decay that beset the huge empire that changed the face of civilization. When it fell we had hundreds of years of the Dark Ages, a massive depression of living standards for all.

I am all for using imported labour as they do in Singapore, very successfully. Menial tasks like child care, domestic and street sweeping, construction, all largely done by guest workers.

But they don't have dole, a large drug problem, or even much of a drinking and smoking problem. Instead they have high and growing rates of home ownership, and fully funded retirement incomes.

They don't accept crap from anyone, and don't drown in needy refugees. Anyone who can work is welcomed.
