Hi acorn, when the tally system was beaten and pay per hour came in the big meat companies couldn't get people to work for what they were offering, it was a supply demand thing not a skill shortage and the more migrant 457 workers they got the tighter they could hold the dollars because the less aussies you get the more you could run to the govt and scream skill shortage, many 457 workers apply for permanent residency and then its a slippery slope to lower wages..
