I have traded in the past primarily on forex and some futures time to time, but not much on the asx. I liked swing trades or sniping from bounces at key levels, probably where much of my experience comes from that I have shared here.

For me, I prefer to buy and hold imu. It's not a company I want to risk being out of the market for, not even for the a day. I can't imagine how upset I'd be with myself if I missed a rerate because I wanted some extra gains. I prefer to take the high probability trades and ignore everything else. This means that for a big chunk of time my trading parcel would be out of the market. If I could guarantee that I'd catch 100% of the up moves then no problem, but it never works that way. Another reason is if your trading parcel is 100k then it costs 10 times more to trade yay 30c than it does at 3c. Do you get 10 times more profit? Probably some of the time. I imagine swing traders have done very well these last couple of weeks from imu, but this is the cream. The higher the price the less lucrative and more risk applies. People do it successfully every day, it's just not for me.

I don't need to live off my trading day to day, so I'm content just to buy and hold, and glad that any funds I would have used as a my trading parcel are now worth quite a bit more, and have a 50% cgt discount.
