I can buy 1 share. I only have to buy $500 worth on the first purchase. Still pay for brokerage though. When the big boys have enough volume they get to negotiate their brokerage, so most of them pay a monthly fee instead of a trade fee. This allows them to make as many trades per month as they like under the monthly fee. Then it's just a matter of automating it with the algorithm bots
