Yeah thanks Gmund but try as try may like my interpretation of things like bollies and candles still poor! On all things EMA and SMA though the power of the EMA as you and many are aware lies in the smoothing constant. For those not familiar this is calculated (2/(1+N)) where N is the number of intervals. By example for a 10-interval EMA the most recent price is weighted with a factor of 18.18, for 20 at 9.52 and for 60 at 3.27 and so on. The larger the interval the less the smoothing constant. Personally I have a bias for SMA during the planning stage but favor the EMA for a quicker reaction when live. Much like a chess I suppose. We all play by the same set of rules with the same available data but many of us will play a different game. SMA or EMA? Each has its strength and weaknesses but the key principle to always protect your capital by avoid of being on the wrong end of the check-mate remains. Enjoy your night one and all.
