I disagree about being able to take anything from the depth, however I would agree that it is certainly unreliable.
Have seen moderate success keeping an eye on the depth. I just find it a little more informative to see some level of sentiment behind the shifts in real time as opposed to watching different sorts of charts.
Guess it just depends on how one's mind interprets the data.
