yeah purchasing a call option may not yield anything for the risk , time and resource they are wasting , may be a synthetic long position are the best bet, but anyways its almost a zero sum game at this price for IMU, never thought about the short strategy.. so not sure how they plan this game.. on surface it looks like need a lot of money, resource and negativity to sustain it...
