You'll never stop shorting on ASX300 and 200 stocks and you wouldn't want to. There's never any shorting on micro and small cap stocks as there's never any script available due to there not being any Insto interest in it. And you wouldn't want that either. Man it was many years of an IMU long hold before any interest came from Instos and we got traction in the market. So shorting is never going away, it's entrenched in the market. But what's not entrenched is retails ability to change their strategies to accommodate these things. One would be to simply find the sell button after the buy button. Especially if playing at this level in the market. The looooong holds are great when things are moving up but they present a bit of pain when it reverses.
The other thing is, don't blame shorting for this being a 4 cent stock currently.
