Rolly I think there's always going to be shorting as that's a by-product of being in the ASX200, a consolidation won't have anything to do with that. The only thing that fixes the short /hedge position is Hopper paying back his loan from McQuarrie sending a very strong signal to all positions long and short or, company announcements create more demand than supply. Do that and the shorting goes away in a heartbeat.
Since doing a bit of research on platforms that are offering shorting services, the activity is growing rapidly therefore it's not going away anytime soon.
