The 188,094,298 sell down traded during the auction definitely did stand out. So who is selling and who is buying ? During the rebalancing window what we do know is that there are many local and global public and private index tracking trader at work re-weighting their own portfolios. Is that solely what was witnessed Friday ? Heading into the week and beyond there should be opportunity now for insight into the extent or not to which the much loathed and talked about short-sellers may have been compounding share price weakness and or inflating trading volumes. What is for sure though when it comes to shorting is that the lower the liquidity the higher the cost to short. The further down an index list the higher the costs to short. In fact the costs can be so high on some low MC and semi-illiquid stocks that the high costs incurred to short help provide a pricing floor. Which poses the question. How will a reduction in shorts impact the near term SP of IMU ? How will the index exit impact any required future capital raisings ? Near on impossible to gauge at present so for now remain very cautious from a trading perspective and hopeful for the science. Opinions mine and mine only of course!
