Yes good question and Friday afternoons are a good time to ask as it's generally a little quieter.
I'm with Iress Viewpoint through Commsec purely because I understand and can navigate around their platform easily for an old bloke and I enjoy setting up many worksheets utilising their widgets. Plus they look after me with a decent deal. I do use Tradingview for their commodity charts (eg to find out what iron ore did overnight). Many experienced people use it so I have no doubt it would be a decent platform.
I so agree with you regarding setting up good habits from the start, a full understanding of the basics is so important and will allow you to advance quickly. So many miss that part.
