A hospital in Sydney which I am aware of have started using cheaper imports instead of using Australian made generics. Eg. antibiotics, ibuprofen and paracetamol that are made in India but distributed in Australia under some local companies. These are some of the cheap generics that makes bulk importing them worthwhile. No, you don't get to choose when you're in hospitals, but I doubt if many customers would care to find out or ask the product's country of origin when buying at a pharmacy outlet either.
Sometimes you can just see the big pictures of tough generics market through these hospital cost cutting measures.
