All depends on what sort of thing you want to invest in. Stocks that double overnight on next to nothing often have a habbit of halving overnight also. There are plenty of stocks around that go like this.
On the other hand there are stocks which aren't as easily played with by traders and manipulated by captain algo and where management are focused on managing the company and not the share price. Stocks like NEN make slow and steady progress without making up stories about how wonderful things will be if the 1 litre of oil in the "oil show" during drilling magically becomes 100 million barrels.
When oil is produced the SP will move accordingly. When the SP moves too early lots of people get burned when the SP comes back down again. NENs time is coming. They are doing the hard yards and the news is generally very good. Bloody exciting stock to be in, even if the SP moves like a snail for now.
