The A V Birla Group has been actively looking at mines in Australia. The group's Essel Mining company is also said to be in talks to buy Flinders Mines of Australia. Valued at around $300 million for its inferred iron ore reserves of 750 million tonnes in the Pilbara iron ore project, Flinders Mines is just one of the many that the Birla's have eyed in the past. Others include Whitehaven and Bandanna Coal assets.
