TASMANIAN-based forest company Gunns Ltd will retain a small core staff after it moves from its Lindsay Street, Launceston, headquarters at the end of November.

But a spokeswoman for Gunns said yesterday that the location of the company's new home had not yet been decided.
There are only about 50 timber workers left at Gunns' Lindsay Street timber yards.
All but the core administrative team of about 40 will be made redundant when Gunns moves out to make way for new owner Bunnings, the spokeswoman said.
Managing director Greg L'Estrange's contract with Gunns runs out at the end of the year after he extended it for another six months from June.
Hardware chain Bunnings paid $13 million for the Lindsay Street block.
It plans a $40 million redevelopment in two stages that will include a new Bunnings warehouse and other bulky goods tenants.
The spokeswoman for Gunns said that timber from the yard behind the administrative offices had been sold and that the company had stored it for the owners until they were settled in a new location.

The giant kilns at the yards used to kiln dry timber had been offered unsuccessfully for sale so they had been sold instead to a recycling group, she said.
Gunns is still negotiating on the sale of the Bell Bay sawmill that it bought from the now defunct Forest Enterprises.
It is one of the last assets available for sale by the company, which has sold nearly $190 million of assets since March this year.
It still has some units in Green Triangle Forest trusts and Great Southern management rights as well as the site, plans and permits for the proposed $3 billion Bell Bay pulp mill.
