Yes Computershare trading costs are insane! The $25usd lump sum fee is bad enough ut the real killer is the 12 cents (USD) per share on top of that. A trade could literally cost you hundreds of dollars.
I have spoken with Westpac (I even sent a second email to confirm) and they have said they can do free DRS transfers from Computershare US. Can I ask where you got the info on Westpac needing to upgrade? Are you sure you're not thinking about Commsec?
