increase pbs cost for self funded retirees?

There was a small item in today's paper suggesting consideration is being given to self funded retirees who currently qualify for the Commonwealth Heathcare Card which provides for prescriptions at the same charge as those on a pension, being subjected to a doubling of this charge, ie $12 rather than $6 per script.

Sounds a bit like the floating in the media of the possibility of a $5 or $6 charge for bulk billed doctor visits. This provoked a huge outcry and subsequently Mr Abbott has declared it is not part of the government's plan.

However, many fewer people would be affected by a doubling of the per script charge so I'll be surprised if we see any great outcry.

Seems reasonable enough in some ways, but on the other hand, yet another reason not to make the effort to be self funded in retirement.
