    I appreciate the depth of your reply but i'll just address one point or i'll never get out of this chair and I do have a life.

    PV solar panels are actually much more efficient as the temperature drops. A friend in Spain gets far more energy from his off grid solar system in the winter than he does in the summer. I was amazed by that although I suspect generally it's the exception.
    Still it's a factor to consider along with increased levels of wind and wave energy in the winter months.
