i seconded your POV about the US and i used to work for an Australian company with an Australian invented and manufactured product here in Melbourne, it became a world leading technology and sold around the world, including in the US. and I agree with Dr. T thats it's all about protectionism than anything else.

but the US Standards and Approvals, especially FDA, tend to set the world Standards and in a lot of countries where their Standards are weak or non-existence, especially a lot of developing countries in Asia Pacific, they use The US Standards and approvals as a default or copy and paste. then the EU and in some cases Australian Standards and approvals also carry a lot of weight...

add in pricing, insurance and size of market, it makes perfect sense to gear towards The US...okay USA !
