I calculated that about 50k shares would be needed for each $1bn of index fund (and I was deliberately conservative by about 50%) but given that 4m shares were traded at the close (as well as decent volume during the day) this would imply there was between $40bn and $80bn of funds invested tracking the ASX 300.
Does this sound too high to you? It does to me - which means there was other buying involved today - perhaps a leak or maybe just in anticipation of the results if they come out next week.
Appreciate your take on this.
