I'm not sure wazza. I think main Fidelity and Vanguard index funds are around $9B combined.
I recall reading that index funds in Aus were less than 10% of managed funds under management and asset managers hold around 60% of shares. That would make about $85B. However, I think that may be a high guess.
There was huge buying of VOC and PBT at the close, which I find surprising.
However, if you invert what I said, i.e. index funds don't own all shares in index in corresponding equal weight, then perhaps some of the index funds managers decided to be overweight in those 2 companies.
All this is of course a WAG.
