India only exists because the Brits unified the various diverse regime, gave it the rule of law, parliament, etc, but the ruling caste families in India never forgave the Brits for getting their arses handed to them at Plassey.
India is not an egalitarian society .... the haves are more interested in maintaining their privilege by playing both sides of the fence for prestige and power ... something they learned from the British Raj diplomacy.
