In this instance, the definition of “success” is a highly controversial & questionable point imo.
Why is there is negligible news coverage of the quite ludicrous soaring NPAFP cases? Whereby I think India now has the highest reported cases globally. There is a definite case for a correlation between this and the OPV usage. I find this quite disturbing.
Poverty & polio go hand-in-hand & are inextricably linked. The amount spent by the Indian govt on the polio campaign ranges from US$2.5 to a staggering $8 billion. Personally, I believe it would have been more beneficial to have spent the money on improving their sanitation systems, clean water & generally trying to improving hygeine & nutrition levels, which is the crux of the issue....imo :)
