India: DGH set to approve commerciality of Oilex Cambay Block discoveries

The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) is about to approve the commercial viability of a number of oil and gas zones, which Oilex Australia has discovered in the Cambay basin block, in Gujrat.

Oilex identified these zones during the drilling campaign, which it carried out during the later half of 2008, out of which Cambay-74, and Cambay-64 wells have been producing at an average daily rate of approximately 320 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1,150 million cubic feet of associated gas per day.

The Australian E&P firm brought these two discoveries on-stream last year following a brief testing programme.

In the mean time, Oilex is also planning to explore the eastern portion of the Cambay basin block as studies have pointed to Oligocene intervals with untapped gas potential in the eastern part of the block. "We are waiting for the commercial viability status from the DGH, for which we have already received an unofficial go-ahead, post which we are planning to explore the eastern portion of the block," reliable company sources have revealed.
