This is a misleading title. The Indian stock market HAS NOT closed for the day. It was simply suspended during the overlapping time that the ASX was open.
It has since re-opened and trading up over 17% as I type this.
The suspension was because of automatic rules that suspend the market should the indices increase by greater than 10%.
