    we make the usual mistake of thinking that our culture/system is perfectly correct, and so any culture that has difficulty with it must change instead of our culture developing, evolving to integrate other cultural values....

    we would all benefit from less personal ownership of material objects and learning to share more equally.

    and of course you're correct on the matter of expectations. we expect everyone to conform to our rules, not we to conform to their rules. expectations are among the biggest problems humans face as a species - we expect that our industrial system won't hurt us, and so we ignore the global warming that our system has created.
