Akq, when I had a quick look before it appears that the meeting was held by the land corporation that the MT Mulligan are a member of ?
I couldn't confirm that when I was going through the web, but could be a case of the land council in town (Mareeba) not happy with the way the out of town mob have signed up for a deal without including the town mob in on the take. All conjecture IMO
That said, while the Djungan people don't allow Mantle Mining access to the mesa and Mantle is forced to explore the surrounds it is likely Mantle will have to drill down through aquifiers. Whereas drilling horizontally through the mesa for coal seam gas would not affect aquifiers.
I think the local mob need to realise that Mantle has not got the money to give them a big money deal nor do they have the money to risk drilling outside the known coal seams of the mesa in the hope that they strike some seams, particularly in the political climate of anti-csg, as witnessed by the meeting held last week by the land council.
