I mentioned on here a few times that IMHO WLD's traditional market, Indonesia, is dying and have attached an article on why I feel this is the case.
A lot on here are directing their anger at Mauro and co., but EVEN IF was Mauro was some kind of maniacal genius intent on buying his ships back for pennies on the dollar (yes, I have thought and said this, too, after the Brazilian "ship of doom" disaster), how could he have predicted the inflow and impact of frozen Indian buffalo meat?
Again, EVEN IF he gets this now public company back, the Indian buffalo meat don't look to be going away, and he has no real contacts in China (other than Fulida, whom he doesn't see eye-to-eye with) to take advantage of any favorable regulation changes in China, should/when they occur.
The cunning master plan or simply a poor manager when the market turned for the worse - and a for more prolonged period than anyone could reasonably expect?
It's an interesting question, isn't it? He certainly was not looking after the best interests of minor shareholders.
The article makes a disturbing claim that Indian buffalo meat is being passed off as Aussie beef by strategically placing it next to it in some markets. Here is a quote:
"One of the cattle industry's main concerns is that the Indian buffalo meat is being sold alongside fresh Australian beef in local wet markets, where the majority of Indonesians buy their beef.
But the Indian buffalo meat is not identified as such, so consumers are unaware what they are buying is not Australian beef processed in Indonesia, regarded as the best quality meat."
Personally, I have invested for China, but obviously while this is not happening, what can you do? Sell more live cattle at a loss (the failed strategy of 2017) or charter the ships? It's a disturbing question without a satisfactory answer.
Are the good times in Indonesia gone for good?
