I too have my about half my super in an Industry Fund and the other half in a SMSF. The Industry Fund is a more conservative investment that returns around 7%. This allows a little more aggressive investment in my SMSF which in the good times gives a higher return. Over the last 6 years I have had better returns from my SMSF. I recently considered closing the industry fund and rolling it all into my SMSF but decided that the extra 2% was not worth the risk when the tough times come, as they inevitably will.
