Yes absolutely buying property is an option. I guess in my mind I was skewing more towards an equities strategy to fit with the main topics on HotCopper.
Buying properties in your own name, negatively gearing for the first part of ownership, and not realising any gains on sale until after your other income sources have stopped which will reduce CGT issues on sale. The 50% CGT discount is also available when the properties are owned by individuals. Property ownership can also obviously be split between yourself and your partner if you have one, further reducing CGT payable at the point of sale.
