A jury found an African-American man not guilty after he confessed to
brutally killing a white volunteer fire chief.
On August 10, 2017, Devon Dontray Dunham shot and killed retired
volunteer fire chief Ernest Martin Stevens, 77, in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
Despite Dunham’s confession to the murder and the testimony of 19 witnesses,
a jury opted to declare him “not guilty” due to “racism.”
